El Pico Humboldt en la Sierra Nevada es el segundo pico más alto de Venezuela con 4.942 msnm. Se encuentra ubicado en la Sierra Nevada de Mérida. Su cumbre la bordean dos de los cinco glaciares que quedan en la sierra, el glaciar de la Coromoto y el Glaciar de Sievers. Los otros tres, más pequeños, están en el Pico Bolívar. Estas grandes masas de nieve, por encontrarse en montañas localizadas en la zona tropical, corren el riesgo de desaparecer dentro de pocas décadas como consecuencia del calentamiento global. En conjunto con el pico Bonpland es también llamado La Corona
Subir hasta al pico Humboldt en la Sierra Nevada se puede lograr en forma cómoda por medio del Teleférico de Mérida o a través de una excursión de tres días, que se inicia en el parque La Mucuy en Tabay.
El primer día arranca con una caminata por selva nublada, en medio de árboles de gran tamaño se atraviesan varios ríos que descienden de la sierra, hasta llegar a una zona despejada donde se halla la Laguna Coromoto, a 3.000 msnm. El segundo día de recorrido, luego de un energético desayuno, se puede iniciar a media mañana, hasta llegar a la Laguna Verde, 4.000 msnm, donde se acampará para el día siguiente avanzar hasta la cima. El tercer día la clave para conseguir el éxito está en levantarse bien temprano. La buena preparación física es vital: son 8 horas para el ascenso y el descenso. Existen varias formas de alcanzar la cima, bien sea transitando sobre la nieve o escalando en pared semi vertical.
